Archive Policy

Expert in Science and Engineering (ESE) utilizes the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN), including the LOCKSS and CLOCKSS systems, to ensure the long-term preservation, accessibility, and integrity of its published content. These systems create a distributed archiving network among participating libraries, allowing the creation of permanent archives for preservation and restoration purposes.

LOCKSS

Expert in Science and Engineering (ESE) is supported by the LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) system through Open Journal Systems (OJS). LOCKSS is an open-source preservation software developed by Stanford University Libraries that enables participating libraries to collect, preserve, and provide access to journal content by continuously harvesting newly published articles. The archived content is regularly validated across multiple library nodes, ensuring that corrupted or missing files can be restored using verified copies from other libraries or the journal source.

CLOCKSS

ESE also participates in the CLOCKSS (Controlled Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) preservation system. CLOCKSS is a community-governed archive based on the LOCKSS technology that ensures a secure, permanent, and sustainable archive of scholarly content. In the event that journal content becomes unavailable, CLOCKSS provides a reliable mechanism for restoring access to preserved materials.
