Authors publishing in Expert in Science and Engineering (ESE) retain the copyright to their work and grant the journal the right of first publication. The published work is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution–ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0), which permits others to share, adapt, and redistribute the work, provided appropriate credit is given to the original authors and the initial publication in this journal.

Authors may enter into separate, additional contractual arrangements for the non-exclusive distribution of the published version of the work (e.g., depositing it in an institutional repository or including it in a book), provided that acknowledgment is given to its original publication in Expert in Science and Engineering (ESE).
